Man identified in Union Ave. car crash Monday night

UPDATE (SEPT. 8):


The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified 67-year-old Ricky Ricardo Tappin as the pedestrian hit on Union Avenue Monday night. He died at the scene according to police.

UPDATE (9:30 PM):

Police confirmed a man was hit on Union Avenue and died at the scene. BPD said the man was on the center divider of the road in the 500 block of Union Avenue.

A woman was driving the car that hit the man, then crashed into a building said police.

Hall Ambulance and fire officials declared he had died, according to BPD.

Police said the woman lost control of the car about two blocks north of the block while traveling southbound from where the car crashed.

Police said there were no signs from the woman that she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Officials said the investigation is open and speed is being investigated as a potential factor.

At least one person is dead following a car hitting a pedestrian, then a crash into a building in the 500 block of Union Avenue on Monday night.

Bakersfield police confirmed at least one death in the incident. The crash happened around 7:48 p.m.

During the investigation, police shut down southbound traffic on Union. Drivers should be cautious in the area.

According to police, reconstruction crews are on site.
