Toggle5 Injured When Trucks Collide Near Riverside
Adds that victims included sheriff’s deputies
Five people, including three off-duty Riverside County sheriff’s deputies, were injured in a car crash between a box truck and a pickup truck just outside Riverside on Wednesday, March 15, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision happened about 11:40 a.m. when a Nissan Titan going north on Meridian Parkway and a box truck going west on Opportunity Way collided, said CHP Dan Olivas.
That intersection is controlled by a stoplight, but it wasn’t immediately clear which light was red at the time of the crash, Olivas said.
Two people had to be extricated from the vehicles, and everyone involved was hurt. A Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire spokeswoman said two people had serious injuries, two had moderate injuries and one had minor injuries.
Olivas confirmed Thursday that the three people in the Nissan were off-duty deputies on their way back from training. He said he believes they are all expected to survive.
