Officials ID Pedestrian Struck, Killed by Vehicle on Long Beach (710) Freeway

Authorities Thursday identified a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle and killed on the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway in Bell.

Michael Dever, 39, was injured about 2:10 a.m. Tuesday south of Florence Avenue and died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office and the California Highway Patrol. His city of residence was not known.

The motorist, a 42-year-old Bell Gardens man, stopped at the scene and was interviewed by officers, the CHP reported.

The man told officers he was driving south in the No. 2 lane at about 55 mph when his vehicle struck the pedestrian.

“Alcohol is not suspected in this collision,” the CHP reported.

Three southbound lanes were closed for about two hours while an investigation was conducted. Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the CHP East Los Angeles Area office at 323-980-4600.
